5 tips to get your startup noticed

There has never been a better time for Startups to thrive! With more than 3 billion people using the Internet, you can really expand your company’s reach. But the truth is, if you aren’t moving with the times, you and your business are going to get left behind.

1. Great Branding

One of the key factors of getting your Startup noticed is to build a strong brand that your customers will come to know well and trust. Your branding must be true to your consumers and what your company represents. Your logo, business cards, email signature, company profile and website must all be consistent and coherent. Think of your logo as your company signature, the ambassador of your company, wouldn’t you want it to best represent the integrity of your business?

2. Know your target audience

Before we get to building a strong online presence, you need to know who you are marketing to. Get really specific on who your consumers are, where they’re based, what their interests are, their age and gender. Where do they shop? What do they do in their spare time? This will help put your company right in front of them. For example, if your target audience is between 18-30 years old and live in the city, placing an ad in your local newspaper won’t be the best idea as its estimated that 4,6 billion people use mobile devices, which will soon surpass desktops never mind newspapers.

3. Build a strong online presence

Now that you have great branding, you’re nearly on your way. Marketing has never been easier with the rise of social media. As I’m sure you’ve realized by now, if your company isn’t online, you’re missing out on a huge portion of potential customers. So 1st things 1st, get yourself a website. This can be a static site that showcases to potential customers what services/products you offer or you have an e-commerce site. The latter is an online store where you can sell your goods and services. Once that’s done consider adding a blog to your website. This is where you can update your customers on what is new and exciting in your business while also building an email list for an email campaign.

Once you have a beautiful site, you need to start driving traffic to it. This can be achieved by getting your social media going. Facebook alone sees over 1 billion users, with Instagram seeing 1 million. Utilize these platforms and provide good content! The more people commenting, liking and sharing your content, the more reach you have.

4. Be involved

Being the face of your company, it is important for you to be ‘visible’ online. You could be a guest writer for another blog, run a competition giving away a limited edition product, reply to comments on your blog and social media pages. This gets your audience engaged with you.

5. Provide excellent service – always!

Providing great customer service is always a win! It’s not only about getting new customers, but keeping your existing customers happy. Don’t ever underestimate the power of word-of-mouth. Happy customers will become repeat customers and will be happy to share what you have to offer with others.
